Website vs. Web App: A Seamless Transition

The terms "website" and "web app" are often used as if they were clearly distinct from one another. However, in reality, they exist on a continuum ranging from simple to complex, and their differences can sometimes be subtle.

Website

In contrast, a web app is generally more interactive, allowing users to perform actions, input data, and receive real-time results. Web apps are often dynamic and can adapt to user input. A simple example would be an online calendar where users can add, edit, or delete appointments.

However, there are numerous intermediary steps between a simple website and a complex web app. For instance, some websites offer minimal interactivity by integrating forms or small tools. Conversely, web apps can be so extensive and complex that they feel almost like complete software platforms. The boundaries between these two categories are constantly blurring as modern technologies and user expectations continue to evolve.
